DPYD Mutation (for 5FU Sensitivity)
DPD gene encodes for dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) that is required to convert 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) into an inactive form, dihydro 5-FU. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is the most well prescribed chemotherapeutic for a range of solid tumors. Grade III-IV drug toxicity attributed to 5-FU occurs in ~16% of individuals. Variation in toxicity level is defined by the type of genotype in the individuals.
