BRCA1 and BRCA2
Recommended for Breast Cancer

BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are that produce tumor supressor proteins. These proteins help repair damaged DNA and has important role in ensuring the stability of the cell's genetic material. Mutations in BRCA1 gene increases female breast cancer risk – 55% to 65% and ovarian cancer risk – 39 % by age of 50 years. Mutations in BRCA2 gene increases female breast cancer risk – 47% and ovarian cancer risk – 11% to 17% by age of 50 years. It is also associated with risk of male breast cancer. Screening of 1st and 2nd degree relatives of affected individuals to determine the risk of occurence of female and male breast cancer in the family.

Sample Type

FFPE Tissue: Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) tissue block with at least 3-4 sections of tumor tissue. Tissue section should contain >70% tumor content verified by pathologist and should be sent along with 5 H&E stained and 5 unstained slides of tumor tissue.

Blood Sample: 5 ml blood in EDTA Vacutainer at 2-8°C.

Fresh Tissue: Fresh Tissue in tms RNA stabilizer (XGtms-100) provided by Xcelris Labs in sterile leak proof container at -20°C. (in Dry Ice Only)

Saliva Sample: Min 2ml Saliva Sample or blood in pre-designed kits provided by Xcelris Labs.
